Throughout his career, Justice Loffredo, Senior Principal Intellectual Property Legal Counsel at Medtronic PLC, has shown an unparalleled dedication to pro bono service. Justin’s career illustrates what it means to lead with compassion, integrity, and a resolute commitment to expanding access to justice.

Justin’s dedication to pro bono service spans more than a decade and began long before his move in-house. During his tenure at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner LLP, he co-led the firm’s acclaimed asylum practice in partnership with Human Rights First. His advocacy helped secure life-changing outcomes for individuals and families fleeing violence and political persecution—including obtaining asylum for a Salvadoran family escaping domestic abuse and for an Iranian man targeted for his political beliefs. His pro bono work also extended to veterans, successfully securing increased disability benefits before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

When Justin transitioned to Medtronic in 2022, he brought his deep commitment to public service with him. Without the structure of a large firm, he became a driving force in shaping Medtronic’s pro bono culture. As Co-Lead of Medtronic’s Pro Bono Committee, he expanded service opportunities, launched the company’s first global Justice in Action Sprint to engage volunteers across the legal department, and represented Medtronic at Pro Bono Institute convenings to strengthen in-house engagement worldwide.

Justin continues to take on complex, high-impact representation. Through the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center’s Advocacy & Justice Clinic, he has fought vigorously for tenants facing dangerous housing conditions—once securing daily fines against a landlord who allowed a property to fall into severe disrepair, and then winning monetary compensation at trial. In another matter, he is assisting a client with severe disabilities in navigating a nearly nine-year Social Security benefits battle, stepping into a new legal area and bringing tireless advocacy and unwavering support to someone who has long been underserved by the system.

Beyond individual representation, Justin actively shapes the future of pro bono service. He serves on the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center’s Pro Bono Committee, contributes to expanding volunteer engagement across the Advocacy & Justice Clinic, and has devoted years of service to Gifts for the Homeless, where he currently serves on the Board of Directors.
