Join Our Board!
By Paul Lee
Washington Council of Lawyers is powered by our (all-volunteer) Board of Directors. Our working board plans and executes a range of education and training programs, social and fundraising events, and advocacy and communication initiatives. And we’d love for you to join us: We’re now accepting applications to join our board.
Serving on our board is both professionally and personally rewarding, and a great way to become more involved with our organization and the DC public-interest community. Here is a peek at what’s involved:
Responsibilities. The term of service is one year: from September 2016 until September 2017. We hold five board meetings each year (typically at lunchtime during the week), and board members must also join and participate actively in two of our committees—these include Communications, Issues, Membership, Special Events & Fundraising, and Pro Bono & Public Interest. In addition, we ask board members to contribute financially to the organization and attend our events.
Qualifications. Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to pro bono or public-interest law. Our board members have a range of skills, interests, and experience. We’re especially interested in people with experience or expertise in social media, digital media, design, photography, video, or web or app development.
To Apply. Please email me a resume and brief statement of interest (no longer than two typed pages) by Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at 5 pm.
We welcome applications from people involved in nonprofit organizations, the government, law firms, and law schools, but your Washington Council of Lawyers membership must be current to be considered.
If you have questions about board membership, feel free to email me or our Executive Director, Nancy Lopez.
Thanks, and I look forward to reading your application!
Paul Lee is our Board President and, by day, the Pro Bono Manager at Dechert.
