2017 Law Firm Award: Mayer Brown
By Christina Jackson
Mayer Brown, winner of our 2017 Law Firm Award, is known for handling complex legal and business challenges for clients worldwide. It also, however, is deeply committed to pro bono and community service. Mayer Brown lawyers have devoted countless hours to helping those in need, including indigent clients here in DC.
At the same time, the firm has developed innovative approaches to pro bono work. For instance, Mayer Brown was the first major law firm to develop and implement a pro bono strategic plan; the firm pioneers projects that will improve people’s lives locally and globally. And it has been recognized many times for these efforts. Most recently, The National Law Journal named Mayer Brown to its 2017 Pro Bono Hot List, and the Children’s Law Center named the firm it’s 2017 Children’s Pro Bono Champion.
Mayer Brown has also consistently supported our mission and programs. The firm hosted the Spanish Language Exchange series, Poverty Simulations, post-election Activism Through Pro Bono panel and pro bono fair, and recent program on the Experience of Immigrants in DC Courts. In addition, Marcia Tavares Maack, Mayer Brown’s Director of Pro Bono Activities, has been an active member of our Board of Directors and participates on several of our committees; Marcia has brought an important perspective and teamwork to our efforts, and she is genuinely fun to work with!
So thank you to Mayer Brown for supporting pro bono and public-interest work, including the work of Washington Council of Lawyers, and for helping us to expand access to justice.
