Welcome Our New Board Members for the 2025-2026 Board Year!

We are thrilled to welcome these dedicated, knowledgeable, and compassionate advocates to our Board of Directors!

Daniela Huerta Garcia

Daniela is the Director of Legal Partnerships at Volunteer Legal Advocates. She joined DCVLP in 2022 as the Managing Attorney for the Immigration Program.

She was previously an antitrust associate in the Washington, DC office of White & Case LLP. While at White & Case, Daniela maintained an active pro bono practice, including counseling clients regarding asylum matters, drafting comments in opposition to proposed Department of Homeland Security rules, and advocating for the release of a Guantanamo detainee. During law school, she led and participated in various immigration clinics and worked at an immigration law firm, focusing on asylum and other forms of relief. Before starting her legal career, Daniela worked as a field representative for a Member of Congress, focusing on community building and advocating for constituents.

Mindy Johnson

Mindy manages pro bono efforts in the Washington, DC, Office of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver &  Jacobson. As Pro Bono Attorney, she develops and supervises pro bono projects and collaborates with legal service organizations in the Washington D.C. area.

Before joining Fried Frank, Mindy was an associate with a civil rights boutique law firm and an associate with a large US law firm, where she litigated cases on a billable and pro bono basis for organizations and individuals, securing successful outcomes in civil rights and immigration matters, veterans’ benefits and criminal appeals, and in other complex civil litigation.

Nirupa Narayan

Nirupa is the Vice President, Pro Bono Partnerships, Global at Kids in Need of Defense (KIND). In that role, she works with KIND’s operations in the U.S., Europe, and Latin America, and directs KIND’s pro bono program globally.  Nirupa develops, maintains, and deepens partnerships with law firms, corporations, bar associations, and law schools whose attorneys represent thousands of unaccompanied or separated children in their immigration proceedings. She also implements pro bono policies and best practices across the organization.

Prior to joining KIND, Nirupa was a long-time immigration lawyer at several legal services providers, served in public diplomacy with the U.S. Department of State, and was a Pro Bono Legal Advisor for Justice Without Borders.

Mike Stewart

Mike is a Regulatory & Litigation Counsel on Google’s Regulatory Affairs team, focused primarily on privacy and consumer protection matters.

Before that, he was a Trial Attorney in the Voting Section of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division. Mike began his legal career in the Washington, D.C. office of Jenner & Block, where his pro bono practice included civil rights litigation, criminal appeals, and Freedom of Information Act matters. He is a graduate of Stanford Law School and Georgetown University, and spent two years as a teacher in D.C. Public Schools before law school.
