Join Our Board!

Washington Council of Lawyers is powered by our (all-volunteer) Board of Directors. Our working board plans and executes a range of education and training programs, social and fundraising events, and advocacy and communication initiatives. And we’d love for you to join us: We’re now accepting applications to join our board.

Serving on our board is both professionally and personally rewarding and a great way to become more involved with our organization and the DC public-interest community. Here is a peek at what’s involved:

Responsibilities. This is a working board. The term of service is one year from September 1, 2024, until August 31, 2025, with the opportunity to stay on for future terms. You should plan to attend six board meetings each year (typically at lunchtime during the week). You also should plan to either co-chair or actively participate in at least two of our committees (including Advocacy; Budget, Finance & Planning; Communications; D.C. Bar Affairs; Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Access; Judicial Endorsements; Honorary Board; Membership; Personnel; Pro Bono & Public Interest; Special Events & Fundraising; Strategic Planning ). Board members are expected to attend our events when possible and to make a personally meaningful financial contribution to the organization each year.

Qualifications. Because the legal profession should be as varied and diverse as the world that we live in, our board comprises individuals from diverse backgrounds who bring a range of skills, interests, and voices. Board members come from all sectors of the legal community and are committed to pro bono and public-interest law. We work collaboratively amongst ourselves and with other organizations to maximize our impact.

To Apply. Please submit your application by 5:00 pm on Friday, June 7. 2024.

We welcome applications from people involved in law firms, nonprofit organizations, the government, corporate legal departments, and law schools, but your Washington Council of Lawyers membership must be current to be considered.

The Washington Council of Lawyers is committed to constantly working toward better diversity, equity, inclusivity, and access. In your application materials, please share what this work means to you and how aspects of who you are would contribute to this mission.

If you have any questions or need more information, please email our Executive Director, Christina Jackson, at cjackson@wclawyers.org.
