Meet Our New Board Members! (2015 Edition)

  • Blog

We’re delighted to welcome three new lawyers to our Board of Directors: Kyle Fiet, Tanya Senanayake, and Mia Sussman.

Kyle Fiet is an associate at Sidley Austin. His practice focuses on government contracts and litigation. Before joining Sidley, Kyle clerked for Judge Karen Henderson at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Kyle has an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University and received his J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law. Kyle speaks Swedish, and he worked during undergrad at a factory that manufactured fish food.

Tanya Senanayake is an Attorney in the Office of General Counsel at the Federal Election Commission, where she focuses on the enforcement of campaign finance law. Tanya also works with the DC Volunteer Lawyers Project to represent clients in hearings for civil protection orders. Before joining the FEC, Tanya represented government workers in overtime and employment discrimination suits at a labor and employment law firm and served as an Employment Law Fellow at the National Women’s Law Center. Tanya has undergraduate degrees in Archeology and Anthropology from Yale and received her J.D. from New York University School of Law. In her spare time, Tanya teaches yoga and focuses on the use of yoga as a tool of healing for survivors of trauma.

Mia Sussman is the Senior Manager of Pro Bono at Equal Justice Works. Before joining Equal Justice Works, Mia was an antitrust litigation associate at Latham & Watkins. Mia also helped manage the firm’s pro bono program, assisting Holocaust survivors in applying for reparations from Germany. Mia received her B.A. in international relations and French from Tufts University and earned her J.D. from University of Michigan Law School, and she also holds a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke University. A native Minnesotan, Mia has lots of Minnesota pride; in her spare time, she practices bikram (hot!) yoga.

We’re also saying goodbye to three veteran board members, each of whom has moved away from Washington, DC. Richard Jerome was our longtime co-chair of the Issues Committee. Betsy Howe served as both our President and our Treasurer (albeit not at the same time). And Steve Grumm was our two-time President.

Please join us in welcoming Kyle, Tanya, and Mia and bidding farewell to Richard, Betsy, and Steve!
